About Us

Sacramento Chapter History

NCBW Members with Banner The Sacramento Chapter of NCBW is a non-profit volunteer; advocacy organization established in 2002 and is comprised of professional women dedicated to community service, leadership development, and the enhancement of career opportunities.  NCBW's socially conscious female leaders are committed to furthering equity and empowerment for women of color in the  society-at-large, improving the environment of their neighborhoods, rebuilding their communities and enhancing the quality of public and private resources for the growth and development of disadvantaged youths. The Sacramento Chapter is one of 63 chapters in 25 states with over 7,500 members.

A Voice For Women of Color

The NCBW mission is the development of socially conscious female leaders who are committed to furthering equity and empowerment for women of color in the society-at-large, improving the environment of their neighborhoods, rebuilding their communities and enhancing the quality of public and private resources for the growth and development of disadvantaged youths. NCBW is dedicated to community service, the creation of wealth for social change, the enhancement of career opportunities for women of color through networking and strategically designed programs and the empowerment of women of color to meet their diverse needs.

Objectives

Our mission is to empower women and girls through programs that:

  • Meet diverse needs and provide effective networks among female leaders
  • Establish links and partnerships between NCBW and the corporate and political sectors
  • Enable women of color to be a visible force in the socio-economic and political arenas
  • Expose our next generation to new career opportunities, especially in the corporate and political sector
  • Recognize the historic achievement of African American women.

Ongoing Projects

  • Fostering Hope Mentoring Program-partnership with the Grant Joint Union School District and San Juan Unified School to provide consistent support for foster girls residing in Sacramento County.
  • Nordstrom’s Strategic Partnership- Provides  $5000.00 grant to support the Fostering Hope Program
  • California Youth Connection- Support statewide Foster Youth Advocacy Issues
  • High School and College Scholarship Awards Program
  • United Negro College Fund (UNCF) contributor
  • Healthy Aging Summit- Community Service Day
  • Voter Registration-“Get Out the Vote”- Collaboration with First Five of Sacramento
  • Programme of Peace, Eritrea Africa - Sponsor a medical fund to assist three hemophilic siblings.
  • Welfare to Work Clothes Closet - to assist women entering the workforce
  • Sponsor of the Mind, Body & Spirit (MBS) – Celebration of Life Breast Cancer
