FOSTERING HOPE MENTORING PROGRAM

Sponsored by Nordstrom, our Fostering Hope Mentoring Program serves young women between 12-18 years of age. The mission of this hallmark program is to assist teenage girls in the Sacramento County foster care system transition into independent young adults.  Fostering Hope offers mentoring, social and educational enrichment opportunities.

The Program strives to serve the needs of young women in the foster care system by providing assistance to:

  • Improve academic performance.
  • Develop ongoing relationships with caring adult females.
  • Develop leadership ability, practical living skills and the maturity needed to lead a self-sufficient lifestyle.
  • Improve communication skills both oral and written.
  • Serve the community through mentoring of younger youth.

HIV/AIDS AWARENESS

HIV/AIDS Awareness is a national health initiative of NCBW.  We strive to promote legislative policies that act against AIDS.  In collaboration with Center for AIDS Research Education and Services (CARES) we also work to increase awareness and detection of this disease through educational workshops and testing.

ST. JOHN SHELTER PROGRAM

NCBW is a proud partner with ST. John Shelter for homeless women with children, providing semi-annual donations, hosting holiday specific projects and quarterly HIV/AIDS workshops and testing.

DIABETES EDUCATION AND PREVENTION

NCBW has joined with the American Diabetes Assoication to make a meaningful difference in the fight against diabetes through education in the African American community on the prevention and cure of diabetes.

Teen Dating Violence

In June of this year, all 50 state attorneys general passed the Teen Dating Violence Education Resolution, which calls for every American student to learn about teen dating violence and abuse every year from grades seven through 12. The resolution — the first of its kind — finally acknowledges that relationship education is every bit as lifesaving as other safety courses that are taught in school, like alcohol awareness and health class.

Statistics show that 1 in 3 teens experience violence in dating relationships. This type of violence crosses all racial, economic and social lines.  Our teen dating violence program is designed to advocate for teen dating violence prevention and educate teens on how to recognize abuse and actions that can be taken when abuse occurs.

PROGRAMME OF PEACE
